Galaxy Quest: Dean Parisot on comedy that respects the fans
Dean Parisot directed Galaxy Quest, a satire that works because it loves the thing it teases. Directing comedy about fandom means casting sincerity next to absurdity, and never punching down at the people who show up in costume.
The craft move is tone control on set: let actors play real stakes inside ridiculous situations. Parisot's origin stories on the podcast map how that balance was protected in production.
Filmmakers still steal from Galaxy Quest whenever they need affectionate parody that still delivers adventure set pieces.
